AirAsia voted Best Low-Cost Airline in the world, again.

At the World Airline Awards held at Farnborough Airshow, United Kingdom, AirAsia was again voted to be the Best Low-Cost Airline 2016, for the 8th consecutive year. Tony Fernandes, the CEO of AirAsia Group was proud of this achievement and thanked his staff in a live feed in which he said: “We just won world’s Best Low-Cost Airline for the eighth time, which is damn pretty cool. I want to to thank all my staff who ensure that low-cost doesn’t mean low quality. Even though we’ve won this award eight times, we know we can be better, we want to improve our customer service, we want to improve talking to you“

The Awards are organized by SkyTrax and are based on passenger satisfaction surveys on airline quality. It is seen as highly remarkable that AirAsia is able to win this award again as the low-cost airline market becomes ever more competitive and every year new low-cost airlines are started. Although AirAsia is considered to be the best and has grown tremendously in the last decade, it market share has recently flattened as AirAsia faces increased competition from other low-cost airlines, especially from the Lion Air Group (Malindo, Thai Lion Air and Lion Air).

These Lion Air group airlines didn't win any awards but other Asian airlines did. Singapore Airlines was voted Best Airline in Asia and Best Business Class Airline Seat. Thai Airways won the award for World's Most Improved Airline (which Garuda Indonesia has won before) and Thai won the award for Best Airline Lounge Spa Facility (something to be very proud of). Indigo was voted to be the Best Low-Cost Airline in Central Asia / India while Garuda Indonesia won the award for Best Cabin Crew.

In the Australia / Pacific Region JetStar won the award for Best Low-Cost airline, while Qantas won three awards: Worlds Best Business class, Best Airline Staff in Australia/Pacific and Best Premium Economy Onboard Catering.
