Utiket, history and future
The first version of Utiket came online in February 2011 after several months of developing which started all in all in the summer the year before. Since then we have been developing continuously and added many, many features.
Short history of Utiket:
- 2010
- July 2010: first idea to build flight comparison website and initial development was started.
- 2011
- February 2011: Utiket comes to live! After months of developing a first version sees the light. Although with just a few airlines and pretty bad design, Utiket has been born.
- March 2011: added weblog to Utiket
- June 2011: Milestone reached: on 13 June we received well over 5.000 visitors on a single day
- August 2011: Added international destinations
- September 2011: Added tourist destinations and travel guides
- 2012
- April 2012: Another milestone: on April 2 we had over 20.000 visitors on a single day
- June 2012: hired two more staff and moved into our office at the Jl. Kaliurang, Yogyakarta.
- July 2012: On July 30 we reached another milestone: 40.000 daily visitors.
- 2013
- April 2013: Added a system to compare trains in Indonesia.
- May 2013: A website designer joined our team, bringing the total people working for Utiket to now eight full-time employees.
- July 2013: With mobile visitors becoming an increasing share of our total visitors, we added a dedicated version for mobile visitors.
- October 2013: Our unique Price History graph sees the light. Since a few months we had been saving every single flight result which is found on Utiket in a separate database. With up to hundred thousand searches a day that is a lot of data (around a hundred megabyte each day). As far as we know, Utiket is the first and only website in the world capable of showing the history of flight fares.
- 2014
- April 2014: The two versions of the website (one for desktop and one for mobile/tablets) has some disadvantages so we deleted our dedicated mobile website and made the whole site "responsive": one single website with optimized design setting for every screen size.
- May 2014: Utiket goes global with separate domain names and optimized regional content for visitors in Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, India and of course Indonesia.
- June 2014: Added ten more airlines to bring the total of low-cost airlines on Utiket to 40.
Plans for the future
We strive to become the largest meta-search website in the world for comparing low-cost flights. So we will be busy adding more countries, more destinations, more airlines and more nice cool features that can help you get the best deal.
