The airport has seen an enormous growth recently due to the mining boom in the area and the success of international low-cost airlines flying to Perth
The airport has two domestic terminals next to each other and one international terminal located 10 km away from the domestic ones. All terminals use the same runways though. The domestic terminals are with about 12 km closest to the city while the international terminal is a bit further away (17 km from the city center).
Choices are limited when arriving at the International terminal as there is no public transportation option here. Shuttle buses will take you to the city and drop you off at your hotel for A$ 16 per person. If you are with two or more people best to take a taxi which will be a lot faster for about A$40 using the meter.
The domestic terminals have the same shuttle and taxi options and are also connected to the public bus system by bus 37 which will take you into the city for A$ 3.70.
