If The Air Travel Experience Is So Awful Why Are Airlines Still Reporting Record Passenger Numbers?

Berra, the late, great Yankee catcher, was talking about a New York restaurant when he unleashed that particular gem – one of dozens of malaprops that arguably earned him even more recognition than he got for his prodigious bat and top flight skills behind the plate.


But ol’ Yogi just as well could have been talking about U.S. airlines today.


For tens of millions of Americans the prospect of flying is about as exciting as a trip to the dentist. The seats are cramped. The service is, at best, barely bearable. The hassles are huge. The time demands have grown to be way out of proportion the actual distances covered. And it sure seems to cost a lot of money to fly these days by the time you pay extra checking bags or choosing your seat, parking or a taxi, outrageous airport food and other incidentals.
