Lake Gardens

The Lake Gardens is a huge 91.6 hectare park consisting of the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park, an artificial lake, the National Monument, several manicured gardens, the former Malaysian Parliament and the Butterfly House. It was established in 1888 and although it is now in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, it is a great place to get away from the crowd and hassle of KL.

Kuala Lumpur Bird Park

The Kuala Lumpur Bird Park is a 8.5 hectares large park. At the Bird Park are about 3000 birds of 200 species, mostly local but foreign birds as well. It is said to be the largest covered bird park in the world. Only part of the birds are kept in cages, most birds are kept in a fly-free zone which resembles their natural habitat and are able to breed naturally. For visitors this is much more interesting of course than watching birds in a cage. With RM 48 admission fee for an adult and RM 38 for a child it is fairly expensive though. Opening hours are from 09:00 till 18:00.

National Monument

The National monument is part of the Park and commemorates those who have died for Malaysia’s freedom and independence, against the Japanese and the British. The monument depicts a group of soldiers and is made of bronze and a full 15 meters high. The figures resemble leadership, suffering, unity, vigilance, strength , courage and sacrifice.

Hibiscus Garden

A beautiful garden filled mostly with the Malaysia’s national symbol, the Hibiscus flower. Over 500 species from all over the world are gathered here. It is open from 09:00 till 18:00 and admission is free.

Butterfly Park

The park is an imitation of butterflies natural habitat and they are able to fly around freely. Over 6.000 butterflies of 120 different species live in a carefully reconstructed Malaysian rainforest with over 15.000 plants. It is open from 09:00 till 17:00 and admission is just RM 4 for adults and RM 2 for children.
