Tiger Mandala Air ceases operations

Tiger Mandala Air ceases operations

19 Jun 2014 12:07:00

It was only short time ago when Mandala start flying again on April 5, 2012 as Tiger Mandala Air, but yesterday, just two years later, Mandala announced they will cease all operations on 1 July 2014.
Mandala already had reduced their flight routes and aircraft in February 2014 but it still comes as a surprise that Mandala will cease to exist completely, especially since Tiger Air has invested a lot of money in it to gain a market share in Indonesia.
But the cut-throat competition in Indonesia was too much for Tiger making Mandala the latest victim after a string of bankrupties of Indonesian airlines this year. Earlier Sky Aviation and Merpati also stopped flying after sustaining heavy losses. Besides the competition from leaders like Lion Air and Airasia, Indonesian airlines face more problems like increased operational costs due to a sharp depreciation of the rupiah and high fuel cost. Hopefully this will be the last news of a closure of an Indonesian airline.
At the moment it is unclear what will happen for those who have bought tickets for Mandala flights. For further information or assistance you can directly visit the site of Tiger Airlines or contact the Mandala call center at (+62 21) 2939-6688 until July 31, 2014.

Update 23 juni:

Tiger Air Group will provide all affected passengers with a flight transfer if possible or a refund. Passengers would need to contact the Mandala or Tigerair call centre by July 31.
